QUICK TIP: Flattening Curly 35mm Film for Sharp Scans on Your Flatbed Scanner
In this video I show a technique that I've been using for years to flatten my curly 35mm filmstrips. As we know, flat film leads to sharp scans on your flatbed scanner so it's important that you flatten out that stubborn curly film before scanning.

Great job explaining this camera and its functions. I have this same camera, and I can’t understand why the same vintage Pentax cameras are going for so much more. However, I did like the LED meter on my Pentax MX better. But, I agree with you, Eric, the SRT series are very well made.

I'm going to be switching between rolls for an upcoming shoot and my canon always puts the film leader back (tried the different C-fn and still did not leave the leader out). Would this in any way damage the film if I switch rolls using this technique multiple times?

Hi, I have a very basic Agfa Isolette V. The bellows are in pretty poor shape and I am looking for another 6x6 folder. Hopefully slightly higher end, with a range finder. I was advised that Mamiya Six is a really good bang for the buck. How does Mamiya Six Automat compare to Agfa Super Isolette? Which Agfa Isolette model is the closest in features, build, and image quality to the Mamiya? Thanks...

Eric, This is a great video, It is very informative and frankly better than anything SF has produced. I have been using SF HDR for 4 years. It has been a 4 year love/hate relationship. I enjoy the feature rich capabilities of the Software, but my workflow has never been able to get traction and speed up the process of film scanning because on one bug or another in the software or because of one more hill in the learning curve to overcome. It would be different with outstanding support, but I find SF support is minimal and the help of poor quality.

Agfa super isolete is supposed to be the superb folding camera made ever. I. Purchased one second hand in very good condition for my collection with a solinar 3.5 lens. I also purchased its younger brother isolete lll with 3.5 solinar lens but. non coupelled rengefinder. It also gives superb results. Sologon, solinar, and apotar, agnar, are superb and famous lenses of agfa products, and Iam crazy of agfa folders, 1950 to1960was a time for using folders and zeiss super ikonta, Fujica, solida ,kodak,,were blooming inthe field of folders. But in my opinion I found super isolete is one of the best in the field that time. Thanks to Agfa, Germany for releasing out standing products of all time. S.K.Pareek.Bhawanimandi.Raj.India.

Thanks for this video review. I found it useful. I have two ME Supers, an OM-1 and an M-1. Thinking about it, Olympus got the size down through moving the shutter dial and keeping everything mechanical. On the other hand, Pentax got rid of the shutter dial/ring all together and introduced a bunch of electronics.

I have a set of three Retina cameras in my collection. And aal three are in A one condition. I have fully enjoyed using IIIC and IIB. All the three models are with different lences, xenar, schnider, and Rodenstock. 2.8 and f2. With wonderful performence, color sturation and sharpness, and Iam happy with it and grade them as Leicas of Kodak for their great performence. Iam frequently using them as they are antique treasure now. Thanks to KODAK for releasing such a marvel. S.K .Pareek. Bhawanimandi.Raj.India.

Thanks Eric for another great camera review. I bought an Olympus Pen F 2 or 3 years ago. Fortunately it came with original black leather case, clip-on light meter, books and an f/1.4 lens. I got it professionally CLA'd and it's in great condition except for a small dent on the side which has no effect. Just a little feed back on your video; on the intro to the photos of your children the music comes in a bit too loud compared to the volume of your voice. Thank you from Adelaide, Australia. Nice review! Very accurate. I used both the N8008 and N8008s in the ‘90’s as a photojournalist before switching the the Nikon D1. I loved the N8008’s. Much better than the N4004 and N6006 which were the first Plastic Nikon SLR and redesigned compared to the N2000 and N2020. The N8008 was light yet durable for newspaper work. I loved my FE and FM2 with the MD-12 motor drives but they were heavier. F3 with the MD-4 was a lead weight tank. Those old AF lenses are a smidge slow focusing but tack sharp! I still use a couple old Nikkor AF lenses regularly in my camera bag. Yes the Nikon SB-24 & 25 Speedlights were used with the N8008. TTL Flash with the Infra-Red focus assist was terrific. I haven’t shot film in 26 years but my N8008 has earned a special place on my old camera gear display mantle.

I think Barnack made the first 'Ur' cameras to test short lengths of motion picture stock (which was inconsistent, and needed testing). It was later that he turned his testing device into a dedicated stills camera. (Is that right?)

These scanners cannot scan at 200mp. (The maximum equivalent megapixel of film is in the 12-24 range. Kodachrome can be higher depending on the year is was produced & if a good lens was used & if good technique was practiced). They have been tested and the XA is around 3600--3800dpi, not 10,000. The Epson 850 is less. The stepper motor can advance in small increments. This does not mean the sensor can resolve detail however. In order to get a higher resolution scan, you need a drum.

Great channel and your reviews are very helpful. I had a CoolPix era photography friend whom I loved to talk with because she talked tech cameras, scanning, and film developing. Great photographer! I am a fluid paint artist and art school student who needs a rugged, light, reliable DSLR Nikon probably -- to take both botanical reference photos and a few landscape and portrait photos for drawing references. That means photos need to show highlights, shadows, and some of the background. I need a ready to go/shoot DSLR so I can download to tablet or computer from a HS HD SD card, and then, crop etc with Paint/other illustration/drawing apps and then proceed to draw and paint. Any thoughts on a good fit off the used market? Thx in advance.

If you’re looking for a DSLR on a budget I would recommend the Nikon D810. It takes absolutely fantastic digital images. If that’s too pricey the Nikon D5500. It has an amazing sensor that will take great photos with a good lens. Get a fast ai-s lens for either or if you need autofocus then an af-d lens. The D5500 won’t work with af-d lenses unfortunately

I've got the 100b and the Super (303b). I just love the design and simplicity... It just works with far less potential issues than the later, more electronic models. I know it's VERY unlikely but I'd love to see Sony pay respect to their Minolta roots and release a modern camera styled on this... It would set a record for camera sales. Such a beautiful classic.

After WWII, the allies cancelled German patents for cameras and it was then legal to copy the features as well as the whole camera. During the war, the allies sponsored copies of the Leicas for wartime use though I don't think they managed to build it before the war ended. A LOT Of Russian copies were made with their own brands but a lot of THOSE have been modified to say Leica, essentially turning a legal copy into a counterfeit Leica. Also since the russians scored an entire Zeiss factory, a lot of lenses, even on leica copies were more zeiss clones than leica clones in terms of optical design.
